Abraham’s Scripture
Quran Talk Blog · Article · May 10, 2022
A question that comes up is that if Abraham was a prophet and therefore received a scripture is there any proof of this in the Quran? Firstly, just because God may not inform us of every scripture sent down, does not mean that He did not send down certain scriptures to certain individuals. That said, is this the situation with Abraham or is there any indication in the Quran that Abraham had written words from God?
Typically the word used in the Quran for scripture is kitab, but this is not the only word used in reference to scripture. In addition, the Quran also uses the word Tanzil (17:106, 20:4, 26:192 32:2, 36:5, 39:1, 40:2, 41:2), Zubur (16:44, 26:196, , ), Zikr (, , , , ), as well as Suhuf. While each of these words has a unique reason when being used, in the right context these words can also signify the written scripture.
