Uthman Quran Burnings

Narrated Abdullah, he said: Sahl bin Salih narrated to us, saying: Abu Dawud and Ya'qub(1) said: Shu'bah informed us, from Alqamah bin Murthad, from Suwayd bin Ghaflah, who said that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said about the copies of the Qur'an: "If Uthman had not done it, I would have done it." [Abu Dawud said from a man from Suwayd.] حدثنا عبد الله قال: حدثنا سهل بن صالح قال: حدثنا أبو داود ويعقوب(١) قالا: أخبرنا شعبة، عن علقمة بن مرثد، عن سويد بن غفلة قال عليٌّ في المصاحف: لو لم يصنعه عثمان لصنعته. Narrated Abdullah, he said: Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, saying: Muhammad bin Ja'far and Abdul Rahman narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Alqamah bin Murthad, from a man, from Suwayd bin Ghaflah, who said that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said when Uthman burned the copies of the Qur'an: "If he had not done it, I would have done it." حدثنا عبد الله قال: حدثنا محمد بن بشار قال: حدثنا محمد بن جعفر وعبد الرحمن قالا: حدثنا شعبة، عن علقمة بن مرثد، عن رجل، عن سويد بن غفلة قال عليٌّ حين حرق عثمان المصاحف: لو لم يصنعه هو لصنعته. Narrated Abdullah, he said: Ahmad bin Sinan narrated to us, saying: Abdul Rahman narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Mus'ab bin Sa'd, who said: "I met the people unanimously agreeing when Uthman burned the copies of the Qur'an, and they admired that, and none of them disapproved of it." حدثنا عبد الله قال: حدثنا أحمد بن سنان قال: حدثنا عبد الرحمن قال: حدثنا شعبة عن أبي إسحاق عن مصعب بن سعد قال: أدركت الناس متوافرين حين حرق عثمان المصاحف فأعجبهم ذلك، وقال: لم ينكره ذلك منهم أحد.
