Narrated by Hannad, narrated by Wakee’, from Sufyan, from Ali ibn Zayd, from Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib, from Aisha who said:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When the circumcised part passes the circumcised part, ghusl (ritual washing) becomes obligatory.”
Abu Eisa (i.e., Imam Tirmidhi) said: This hadith of Aisha is a hasan sahih (good and authentic) hadith. It has been narrated through different chains of transmission from Aisha on the authority of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “When the circumcised parts meet, ghusl becomes obligatory.”
This is also the opinion of the majority of the scholars among the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him), including Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, and Aisha, and the jurists among the Tabi'een (successors) and those after them, such as Sufyan al-Thawri, al-Shafi’i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. They said: “When the two circumcised parts meet, ghusl becomes obligatory.”
